SELECTION AND INDUCTION
5.2 MEANING AND IMPORTANCE OF SELECTION :-
• Meaning :-
→ Selection is the process of choosing appropriate candidate from the obtained application to match the requirements of the job.
• Importance of Selection :-
→ The main purpose of selection is to pick up the most suitable candidate who would meet the requirements of the job in an organization in the best possible way.
→ To meet this goal, the company obtains and assesses infromation about the applicants in terms of age, qualification, skills and experience.
5.3 STEPS IN SELECTION PROCESS :-
→ There are eight steps in the selection process followed by many companies :-
(1) Reception.
(2) Screening Interview
(3) Application Blank
(4) Selection tests
(5) Selection Interview
(6) Medical Test
(7) Reference Checks
(8) Hiring Decision.
5.4 INDUCTION :-
→ Induction is the process of receiving and welcoming an employee when he first joins a company and giving him the basic information to needs to settle down quickly and start work.
→ Induction serves the following purposes :-
(1) Removes fears.
(2) Creates a good impression.
(3) Act as a valuable source of information.
5.5 STEPS IN INDUCTION PROCESS :-
(1) Welcome to the organization.
(2) Explain about the company.
(3) Show the location, department where the new recrit will work.
(4) Give the company's manual to the new recruit.
(5) Provide details about various work groups and the extentn of unionism within the company.
(6) Give details about pay, benefits, holidays, leave, etc. Emphasize the importance of attendace of punctuality.
(7) Expaling about future training apportunities and career prospects.
(8) Clarify doubts, by encouraging the employee to come out with question.
(9) Take the employee on a guided tour of buildings, facilities, etc.
